Bright-field transmission electron micrographs of epoxy resins reveal a non-uniform structure. High crosslink density regions are loosely connected with lower molecular weight interstitial regions during the latter stages of the curing process. This two-phase system is affected by the amount of plasticizer during the network formation in the curing process. Stress-strain dynamic measurements on epoxy resins specimens, with various amounts of plasticizer, reveal the effect of plasticization on the structure. Also the relation to the adhesion developed at the interface in two-phase polymer-polymer composites is examined by stress-strain dynamic measurements. |
