heal.abstract Two alternative methods are presented permitting a controlled deposition of nylon 6,6 on the asbestos fibres. The one is based on the principle of the interfacial polymerization and the other comprises impregnation of the fibres with nylon 6,6 solution. The presence of the polymer coating was proved according to the following methods: Weight loss on ignition, extraction and reprecipitation, infrared spectroscopy, and microscopy studies. A better distribution of the polymer deposited was found for the case of the interfacial process. Independently of the process followed, there are no clear indications of a chemical bonding between asbestos and polymer coating. en
