Most of the surfactants that have been employed or proposed for enhanced recovery applications are of the anionic type. It has been discovered that another class of surfactants, which incorporate both an anionic and a cationic center in the same molecule, possess interesting and unusual properties. These surfactants display great chemical and thermal stability and are totally immune to precipitation in the presence of monovalent and/or divalent cations; in fact, many of them are freely soluble in saturated solutions of sodium, calcium, or magnesium chlorides. |
