A generalized simulation model has been developed to assist the design and control of flexible manufacturing systems (FMS). Application has been made on a fictitious system which was configured from the analysis of a realistic parts spectrum. The dependence of the performance of the system on the loading and control strategies, which can be applied to any FMS, and the alternative operating configurations of the system with the number of machines and the robot allocated to serve them, have been investigated. |
