A microcomputer system for the encoding of a digitized image in parallel with its acquisition and without any loss of pictorial information is presented. This system is based on a parallel multi-microprocessor module, supervised by an array processor placed at the top of a hierarchically structured architecture. The memory requirements are very low and any arbitrary number of colors or brightness levels can be treated. It is possible to reconstruct the original image from its coded form in a time comparable to that of scanning. |
