A field study of temporal and spatial sediment size distribution is conducted on a non-tidal pocket beach of Greece under a range of wave energy conditions. Cross-shore and longshore trends in the textural statistical parameters of the sediment population on the sea bed in the pre-breaker, breaker and surf zones are studied at regular time intervals. The distribution of sediment and the morphology of the beach are found to be controlled by the wave-energy level and its spatial distribution. Sorting is observed throughout the beach. Some statistical parameters are grouping to patterns which depend upon the wave-energy level and the appearance of erosion/accretion phenomena. |
