This paper presents a method for direct estimation of the settlement of shallow foundations on sand, based on SPT results and statistical relationships. One hundred and fifty (150) case studies have been re-evaluated using a linear regression analysis. In principle, for all cases a relation of the form : ρ = f(q,B,N) has been established. Similar relations have also been derived for the special cases of loose, medium or dense sands as well as for small (B < 3 m) and large (B > 3 m) foundation widths. |
