This work presents the development and application of a non-linear differential equation for the calculation of the cylinder single-zone gas properties variation during the closed thermodynamic cycle of a high speed, direct injection, naturally aspirated, 4-stroke diesel engine, on which experiments were conducted at the authors' laboratory. The experimental data were used for heat transfer sub-model calibration, determination of fuel reaction rate and comparison to modelling results taken under the assumption of finite differences approximation of species change rates (linear modelling). The analysis proves to be interesting, revealing the importance of the present methodology. |
