Investigation of the failure mechanism of the Patras breakwater extension revealed that the seismic loading of the mound was amplified considerably due to the soft foundation soil. This loading induced the overriding of the low safety factors of the structure. Approximate analytical expressions were obtained for the hydrodynamic loading during earthquake. These were in good agreement with previous results. Recommendations for the completion of the works were given to the harbour authority. |
