heal.abstract	In this paper we describe a terminal adapter which connects a Personal Computer to the Broadband Integrated Services Digital Network based on the Asynchronous Transfer Mode technique. We show that the low cost and modular architecture of the adapter provides a powerful platform serving broadband applications. We present four classes of communication applications which have been built or they are under development : bulk data transfer, interactive data transfer, interworking communication and multimedia applications. We describe the architecture of each application class and we address performance issues in respect to the communication parameters.	en
