heal.abstract	The objective of this is to identify the main meteorological parameters influencing vegetation degradation caused by drought. A dendrochronological methodology was devised for relating the annual tree growth ring widths with several meteorological variables. The methodology was based on standardised growth indices for fir-trees from the Upper Mornos basin in Central Greece. A period of 40 years was studied and relationships were obtained for each for the most important orographic characteristics such as the parent rock, the orientation of the slope and the depth of the soil. Results showed that only the total rainfall depth and the mean temperature during the period of growth could be related to the growth indices.	en
