The order of magnitude of the pressure-time function p(t) of gas enclosed in the cylinder volume of internal combustion engines which yields the indicator diagram p(v) is studied. Proper processing of the p(t) function and knowing the engine geometry, the temperature T(t) and heat exchange q(t) can be obtained. Depending on geometry of the engine, the pressure acting on the piston head is not the same with the one simultaneously being measured by the pressure transducer. This difference is mainly imposed by the limited gas sound speed and the path between piston head and pressure sensor, the pressure wave has to travel, and may change considerably the shape of the measured in indicators diagram. |
