heal.abstract The present work deals with the elastic stability of a shallow parabolic arch and is thoroughly studied its linear, as well as, nonlinear buckling, acted upon by a couple of compressive forces. Initially, the deformation equations are being determined and the expression of the curvature variation is being assessed. At first, applying the corresponding boundary conditions, we reach to a linear homogeneous system, for which and the determinant of its coefficients, one may find the critical buckling loads. For the post-buckling analysis, we use a more accurate expression of the curvature. Using this exact form of the curvature and performing a Taylor expantion of its derivatives, we get a strongly non-linear equation associated to the foregoing problem. Finally, we solve the above equation and one can determine the postbuckling equilibrium paths for the effect of various parameters. en
