heal.abstract	Wheat straw and sweet sorghum stem lignocellulosic pulps obtained by acid-catalyzed water-ethanol solutions were treated with manganese peroxidase (MnP) from Phanerochaete chrysosporium. The results obtained showed that MnP in oxalate or malonate buffers degraded 15-30% of the β-O-4 linked guaiacyl and syringyl lignin monomers, as determined by thioacidolysis. The treatment with the MnP did not have any pronounced effect i) on the monomer sugars composition (arabinose, glucose, xylose, galactose, mannose) and ii) on the p-coumaric and ferulic acids associated to the lignocellulosic fractions.	en
