heal.abstract A measuring system has been developed for the determination of the wavy water surface around ship-like forms under way. Its novelty lies in the combination of different techniques over three areas of the free water surface around the model to maximize the overall measuring accuracy. The measuring procedures are kept simple in principle. Detailed description of the techniques and the relevant procedures is given, with some statements on their accuracy. In addition, the numerical methodology that was used to combine the data from the three areas in order to obtain a mathematical representation of the measured surface is discussed. The method was tested by measuring the free surface around a Series 60, cB = 0.60 model at Froude numbers 0.316 and 0.350. en
