heal.abstract This paper presents an efficient numerical method for the solution of the nonlinear dynamic problem of a mooring line in 3-D space. The method is based on the spectral description of the unknown parameters and uses a higher order implicit numerical scheme for the integration in the time domain. The mathematical model accounts for bending effects, linear and nonlinear constitutive relation and hysteresis phenomena. Extensive numerical results are given and compared with experimental data and other numerical predictions based on methods developed in the past. In all cases the dynamic behavior of the mooring line is calculated for several frequencies of excitation but special attention has been paid for the high and low values of them. en
