An analytical model for rock nailing of deep tunnels is presented. The nail action is taken into account as a body force. Two mechanisms for the mobilization of the nail action are examined. The first one considers an elastic rock-nail interface using as compound stiffness the nail axial stiffness plus the bond stiffness. The second one considers a plastic rock-nail interface using a friction law. The radial convergence is used as a criterion for the effectiveness of nailing. The influence of the nailing configuration and the stiffness parameter on the radial convergence is examined. The use of the elastic interface model is suggested for low convergence tunnel design. For high convergence tunnel design the plastic interface model is more suitable. |
