heal.abstract This paper uses questionnaires from 800 drivers regarding attitudes on speed limits in general, factors affecting choice of speed and their preference on specific speed management methods that were described to them. Policies examined include posted speed limits, differential speed limits by vehicle type, variable speed limits, special road markings, lane narrowing, automated speed enforcement techniques, police enforcement, strict prosecution of offenders, information campaigns, speed management methods concerning vehicles, speed counters, speed control systems, emergency warning systems, and ""smart cards."" The questionnaires are analyzed using rigorous quantitative statistical methodologies with an emphasis on uncovering the dependence between attitude and preferred speed management strategies. en
