Metal-arc inert-gas (MIG) welding of aluminum alloys AA 5383-H116 and AA 5083-H 111 used in naval construction has been studied. Firstly, the effects of surface preparation and welding parameters have been established. Then, optimal operating parameters of welding have been determined for each of the alloy studied. Finally, metallurgical transformations caused by thermal cycles have been identified and the distribution of residual stresses have been examined experimentally. |
