heal.abstract	This paper proposes a framework for an optimal resource management in Satellite UMTS systems based on the work undertaken by the IST project FUTURE (Functional UMTS Emulator). We will discuss some Resource Management aspects for the S-UMTS access network (USRAN) and for the UMTS Core Network, which will be likely shared amongst the terrestrial and satellite segments. As for the USRAN, maximum commonality with terrestrial solutions is pursued looking for an effective integration of both segments, avoiding extra and unnecessary efforts.	en
