heal.abstract This paper focuses on the characterization of recycled concrete aggregates (RCA) and recycled masonry aggregates (RMA), obtained from demolished buildings in Attica region, Greece. Thermal and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) analyses results from the above materials are presented. XRD data, in RCA samples, indicated the presence of calcite, portlandite and dolomite while thermal analysis revealed the amount of CaCO3 and the hydration degree through the amount of portlandite contained. With regards to RMA sample, XRD data detected mainly the presence of quartz, diopside and gehlenite. Thermal analysis, in RMA sample, indicated no significant reactions up to 1100&C. According to the investigation process, there is a strong evidence that the examined materials could be suitable for reuse as raw materials in cement clinker manufacturing. en
