With the conclusion of the World Radiocommunication Conference 2003 (WRC-03), use of the 47 GHz and 48 GHz bands was permitted for the fixed service (FS) using high altitude platform stations (HAPS) worldwide. This paper examines the sharing and compatibility of the HAPS-based FS with the conventional FS systems using the same frequency bands and establishes the conditions of the coexistence with those services. Separation distances necessary for the harmonic co-existence of the two systems, are extracted through simulations performed under various realistic scenarios in urban, suburban and rural areas for different terrains.
