As a part of the overall EU waste management strategy, several specific waste streams have been defined to receive priority attention, the aim being to reduce the overall environmental impact of each waste stream. Construction and Demolition waste is considered as one of these 'priority' waste streams. Due to the lack of data as well as the differences in definitions between member countries, it is difficult to collect and assess data on the generation of C&D waste at EU level. The requirements for reporting these quantities derive also from the Waste Statistic Regulation of 2002. For these reasons the authors have developed a model for the estimation of the quantities of C&D waste generated, using easily accessible data. |
