In this paper, a methodology for the probabilistic evaluation of seismic vulnerability of historical structures and monuments is proposed. The random character of the mechanical properties variations of masonry is taken into account and fragility curves are constructed, based on appropriate density functions and thus representing the probability of certain damage ranks under the effect of various earthquake intensities. The application of the methodology is illustrated through a case study, a Byzantine monastery situated in Athens, Greece. © 2005 Civil-Comp Press. |
