This paper analyses the thermal behaviour of the materials, which are commonly used in the urban open spaces of Athens, Greece. The analysis is based on a series of experimental insitu measurements of surface temperatures, which were conducted during the summer period of 2004 in various urban open spaces of the city. The results of the study clearly demonstrate that most of the materials, which are used in the urban open spaces of Athens tend to overheat during summer afternoon hours, and in this way have a negative impact on the microclimate and on thermal comfort conditions. |
