UV-light and hydrogen peroxide were used for the purification of an aqueous solution containing 1500 mg/L 2-chlorophenol. The effect of H2O2 initial concentration, 2-chlorophenol initial concentration, reaction mixture pH, and the presence of ferric ions on the oxidation of 2-chlorophenol was studied. The oxidation evolution was attended via GC analysis for determining 2-chlorophenol concentration, total organic carbon analysis (Shimadzu TOC-V) for quantifying organic carbon and ion chromatography analysis (Dionex DX-600 1C) for chloride ion, formic and acetic acid detection. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 7th World Congress of Chemical Engineering (Glasgow, Scotland 7/10-14/2005). |
