Marble beam specimens were subjected to three point flexural loading. The progress of microscopic damage was monitored by recording the Acoustic Emission (AE) signals generated during specimen loading. Two well known Greek marbles were tested: the Dionyssos marble and the Volakas marble. Analysis of the AE signals during loading with advanced data analysis AE software is presented. From the analysis of AE signals, evolution of someAE parameters and theAE activity with the applied load is observed. These parameters appear to be suitable to characterize the fracture process and they are precursors of the sudden brittle rock failure. © 2010 Taylor & Francis Group. |
