heal.abstract Preconditioning of the domain integral equation (DIE) method for electromagnetic scattering is considered. The present study is focused on the transverse electric (TE) scattering from inhomogeneous objects having high permittivity value. We explicity derive the symbol and the essential spectrum of the two-dimensional singular integral operator, its left regularizer, and obtain a manifestly Fredholm operator of the form 'identity plus compact'. This regularized system shows an improved performance in terms of convergence, and an even better performance is achieved by further applying deflation on a finite set of largest-magnitude eigenvalues. © 2011 American Institute of Physics. en
