heal.abstract	Αξιοποιώντας τα έργα οχυρωματικής αρχιτεκτονικής ως ενεργό μέρος της σύγχρονης ζωής, αναγνωρίζουμε και ενισχύουμε τις αξίες τους, για να τα αποδώσουμε στους μελλοντικούς χρήστες ενισχυμένα με το ίχνος του παρόντος. Η ένταξη νέων λειτουργιών στα εγκαταλελειμμένα φρούρια απασχολεί την έρευνά μας σαν ένα επίκαιρο και δυσεπίλυτο ζήτημα, που παίρνει σημειολογικές, κοινωνιολογικές, οικονομικές και περιβαλλοντικές διαστάσεις. Η δυσπραγία και η ατολμία στο χειρισμό της επανάχρησης καθιστούν τη συζήτηση επιτακτικότερη στη χώρα μας σε σχέση με άλλα ευρωπαϊκά κράτη. Τα φρούρια χαρακτηρίζονται ως «δύσκολα εκμεταλλεύσιμα» για μια σειρά από λόγους και ιδιαιτερότητες. Μετά από μια σύντομη αναφορά στην εξέλιξη της οχυρωματικής αρχιτεκτονικής, επιχειρούμε να αναλύσουμε τους παράγοντες που επηρεάζουν την εισαγωγή νέας χρήσης, με την κατηγοριοποίησή τους σε ενότητες. Εξετάζονται τρία ιδιαίτερα παραδείγματα επανάχρησης φρουρίων στον ευρωπαϊκό χώρο και στη χώρα μας, ενδεικτικά των σύγχρονων πρακτικών: το Μουσείο Οίνου στο κάστρο του Peñafiel στην Ισπανία, το Πολιτιστικό Κέντρο στο Forte dι Fortezza στη Βόρειο Ιταλία και το Μουσείο Αργυροτεχνίας στο Κάστρο των Ιωαννίνων. Τέλος, καταλήγουμε σε προϋποθέσεις συμβατότητας των νέων χρήσεων στα οχυρά και προτείνουμε ένα πλέγμα δράσεων για την προώθηση των κατάλληλων μεθόδων αναζωοδότησής τους.	el
heal.abstract	By adaptively reusing old, and usually abandoned, fortresses as active elements of the contemporary architectural palette, we acknowledge and accentuate their importance and bestow upon them to future users enhanced with the patina of both old and present. Our research focuses on how to assign new functions to these abandoned fortresses; it is a modern and hard to solve issue that has many semiotic, social, financial and environmental dimensions. Dealing with this subject is necessary, given that Greece has demonstrated a lack of will and determination. Effectively reusing fortresses and other “defensive” buildings can be difficult because of many unique factors. After a short review of how “defensive architecture” evolved over the years, we will attempt to group the factors in distinct categories to explain how they can affect the assignment of new uses. We are focusing in three unique examples of adaptive reuse in Europe (including one in Greece) that reflect successful modern practices: the Wine Museum in the Peñafiel Castle in Spain, the Cultural Center at Forte di Fortezza in Northern Italy and the Silversmithing Museum in the Castle of Ioannina in Northwestern Greece. We conclude by discussing the requirements of compatibility that are necessary in order to successfully identify and develop adaptive reuse solutions. Lastly, we propose a group of actions and recommendations necessary to breathe new life in these old facilities.	en
