heal.abstract	Το θέμα της διπλωματικής μας είναι μια διαδρομή στο χρόνο στο ιστορικό κέντρο της Λευκωσίας. Μελετώντας την περιοχή, παρατηρήσαμε μια υποβάθμιση του κέντρου και εγκατάλειψη πολλών από τα παραδοσιακά του κτήρια. Με αφορμή τη χωροθέτηση του Δημαρχείου στην περιοχή που αποφάσισε ο Δήμος Λευκωσίας, θέτοντας κανόνες ώστε να μην αλλοιωθεί ο χαρακτήρας του ιστορικού κέντρου και την τελική πρόταση που λόγω της εύρεσης αρχαιολογικών ευρημάτων κατά την εκσκαφή διαμορφώθηκε καταπατώντας ορισμένους αρχικούς περιορισμούς, αποφασίσαμε να δώσουμε τη δική μας προσέγγιση στο σχεδιασμό του νέου Δημαρχείου, με βάση το κτηριολογικό πρόγραμμα και τους κανονισμούς που έθεσε ο Δήμος. Ακόμη, συνδέοντας την περιοχή με τη Δημοτική Αγορά, της οποίας ενισχύουμε τη χρηση, αντικαθιστώντας το στέγαστρό της με μια ελαφριά διάτρητη κατασκευή και αφαιρώντας την ενδιάμεση από τις τρεις ζώνες που δημιουργεί ο αυστηρός κάναβος του κτηρίου, δημιουργούμε μια διαδρομή που διέρχεται μέσα από την Αγορά, περνάει πάνω από τα αρχαία και από τις εισόδους των όγκων όπου χωροθετούμε το νέο Δημαρχείο. Επιπλέον ως προς τη Δημοτική Αγορά, καθώς στον α' όροφο στεγαζόταν μέρος του Δημαρχείου, προτείνουμε να χρησιμοποιηθεί για τη χωροθέτηση μεταβλητών μικρών χώρων ανάδειξης παραδοσιακών προϊόντων ή και μικρών εργαστηρίων συλλογικής ενασχόλησης με παραδοσιακά ζητήματα. Τέλος, συμπληρωματικά για την προσέλκυση επισκεπτών στην περιοχή, προτείνουμε τη στέγαση πολιτιστικού περιεχομένου δραστηριοτήτων σε εγκαταλελειμμένα κτήρια, από όπου διέρχεται η διαδρομή, δυτικά της Αγοράς. Ενδεικτικά προτείνουμε να στεγάζουν χώρους συνομιλίας και συνάθροισης, βιβλιοθήκη, υπαίθρια θεατρική σκηνή στην εσωτερική αυλή, μικρούς χώρους φιλοξενίας επισκεπτών, χώρους εκθέσεων κλπ. Έτσι λοιπόν, δημιουργείται μια διαδρομή στον άξονα Ανατολής-Δύσης του ιστορικού κέντρου της Λευκωσίας που διέρχεται από δημόσια κτήρια, τα παραδοσιακά κτήρια προς επανάχρηση, την αυστηρή αγορά ύφους αρχιτεκτονικής του '50 , το σύγχρονο δημαρχείο και το αποτύπωμα της δημόσιας ζωής από τη Βυζαντινή ως την Οθωμανική περίοδο στα αρχαιολογικά ευρήματα.	el
heal.abstract	The subject of our diploma project is a path through time in the historical city centre of Nicosia. While studying the area, we noticed the deterioration of the area and the fact that many of its traditional buildings are abandoned. The municipality of Nicosia decided to build the new City Hall in the city centre, setting some rules in order to protect the historical character of the area, but the final proposal, which had to be changed due to the fact that the excavation revealed archaeological remains, did not completely respect the initial constraints of the municipality. Due to that fact, we decided to present our own perspective for the new City Hall, basing our proposal on the City Hall departments, their initial separation and the regulations initially suggested by the Nicosia Municipality. Furthermore, we form the path to pass through the Municipal Market, while replacing its heavy roof with a lightweight perforated construction and subtracting the middle of its three zones, thereof making the access to the market easier and at the same time supporting the original meaning of a “Municipal Market”. Moreover, as the market's first floor was also used by a City Hall's department now placed in the new building, we propose to rearrange its small offices to changeable small areas for the promotion of traditional products or even small workshop rooms. The aforementioned path connects the market with the new City Hall, passing by all its building parts, in front of all its entrances and above the archaeological remains. Finally, in addition to this public building system and in order to attract more visitors in the city centre, we propose to use existing traditional buildings, currently not used, connected to the market through the same path and to the west, to host cultural activities, such as conversation and gathering areas, a library, an outdoor theatrical stage in the inner courtyard, small rooms to host visitors, exhibition spaces etc. In conclusion, the path designed is on the west-east axis of the Old Town of Nicosia and connects public spaces, such as the traditional buildings planned to be reused, the strict building of the Market, build according to the '50s architectural style, the contemporary City Hall and the remains of public life from the Byzantine to the Ottoman period of the city, which are revealed by the archaeological findings.	en
