heal.abstract	Η παρούσα διπλωματική εργασία αφορά στον Κηφισό ποταμό και σε μια προσπάθεια ορθότερης αξιοποίησης και ένταξής του στην καθημερινότητα των πολιτών του λεκανοπεδίου. Ο Κηφισός αποτελεί το μεγαλύτερο ποτάμι της Αθήνας, μιας πόλης με περιορισμένο υδρογραφικό δίκτυο, που έχει υποστεί έντονες αστικές πιέσεις τις τελευταίες δεκαετίες εις βάρος του φυσικού της περιβάλλοντος. Βασικός στόχος της εργασίας είναι λοιπόν να αποτελέσει ο Κηφισός ένα πιο ενεργό κομμάτι της πόλης που θα παροχετεύει με ασφάλεια και επάρκεια τα όμβρια ύδατα καλύπτοντας τις όποιες απαιτήσεις του λεκανοπεδίου, ενώ παράλληλα θα προσφέρει αισθητική ποιότητα στην πόλη. Πέρα από το λειτουργικό ρόλο όμως που μπορεί να επιτελέσει ως ένα γραμμικό υδάτινο στοιχείο που διατρέχει την πρωτεύουσα, είναι σημαντικό να ξαναβρεί τον κοινωνικό και περιβαλλοντικό χαρακτήρα του ως ποτάμι αποτελώντας πεδίο κοινωνικής συναναστροφής και οικολογικής ευαισθητοποίησης. Ωστόσο, μελετώντας την κατάσταση του ποταμού σήμερα, θεώρησα ότι μια μεμονωμένη ή σημειακή σχεδιαστική ανάπλαση τμήματος των παρόχθιων περιοχών του δε θα ήταν επαρκής για να αλλάξει η σημερινή υποβαθμισμένη εικόνα του. Η απουσία γενικότερης παιδείας και επιμόρφωσης όσον αφορά στο ζήτημα της αξίας του ποταμού και του φυσικού του οικοσυστήματος, αλλά και η αδυναμία διαχείρισης των διαθέσιμων υδάτινων πόρων αποτελούν (μεταξύ άλλων) τα βασικά αίτια που τροφοδοτούν την αρνητική εικόνα του. Επομένως, η διπλωματική εργασία επικεντρώνεται στη δημιουργία ενός ερευνητικού κέντρου που θα μελετά μεθόδους ανακύκλωσης του νερού και δυνατότητες αξιοποίησης των υδάτινων πόρων και θα έχει τη δυνατότητα να προσφέρει στους πολίτες ενημέρωση για τον Κηφισό και το οικοσύστημά του και επιμόρφωση σε θέματα περιβαλλοντικής αγωγής. Παράλληλα με το κέντρο έρευνας και ενημέρωσης, προτείνεται και ο σχεδιασμός ενός επιμορφωτικού περιπάτου στην κοίτη του Κηφισού, μιας διαδρομής ερεθισμάτων που θα φέρει τους κατοίκους σε επαφή με το φυσικό του οικοσύστημα. Η συνολική πρόταση πιλωτικού χαρακτήρα αποσκοπεί δηλαδή, όχι μόνο στην έρευνα και την καταλληλότερη διαχείριση του ποταμού, αλλά πρωτίστως στην ευαισθητοποίηση των Αθηναίων πολιτών που αγνοούν την περιβαλλοντική αξία του. Μελετώντας τον Κηφισό σε σχέση με το λεκανοπέδιο ως προς τη θέση του, την εξέλιξή του μέσα στο χρόνο, τη σύνδεσή του με τον αστικό και περιαστικό ιστό, αλλά και την αναστρεψιμότητα ή μη της κατάστασης της κοίτης του, επέλεξα να ασχοληθώ με το τμήμα του ποταμού που διέρχεται από τους δήμους Αχαρνών, Κηφισιάς και Μεταμόρφωσης, Πρόκειται για μια περιοχή που περιλαμβάνει τις οριοθετημένες Ζώνες Προστασίας του Κηφισού, ανήκει στον προαστιακό χώρο της Αττικής με πολλές και έντονες μεταβολές και κυρίως παραμένει άγνωστο στους περισσότερους το γεγονός ότι μέχρι και το σημείο διείσδυσής του στον πυκνό αστικό ιστό ο Κηφισός διατηρεί την φυσική του κοίτη. Μέσα από την ανάλυση της περιοχής, και κυρίως του δήμου Αχαρνών, που αποτελεί το άμεσο χωρικό και κοινωνικό πεδίο της πρότασης, προκύπτει ένα πρόβλημα διττής φύσεως: από τη μία η περιβαλλοντική υποβάθμιση των παραρεμάτιων περιοχών και από την άλλη η κοινωνική ανισότητα και υποβάθμιση του αστικού χώρου. Έτσι, το σενάριο της πρότασης κτίζεται πάνω σε τρεις άξονες: την έρευνα, την ενημέρωση-πληροφόρηση και τη διάδραση. Για τη σχεδιαστική απόδοση των παραπάνω λειτουργιών έπαιξε σημαντικό ρόλο η μελέτη της ίδια της περιοχής. Το ανάγλυφο, η υπάρχουσα φύτευση, η μορφολογία της κοίτης του ποταμού και οι χαράξεις των πρανών αποτέλεσαν τα βασικά σχεδιαστικά εργαλεία της πρότασης, ενώ εικόνες αυτοσχέδιων κατασκευών της ελληνικής υπαίθρου καθώς και δομές φυσικών υλικών που πατούν στη λογική αυτών των κατασκευών συνέβαλαν στη διαμόρφωση της παρόχθιας περιοχής και του κτιριακού όγκου. Τέλος, θα ήθελα να τονίσω ότι σε όλη την πορεία της εργασίας κυριαρχούσε ως πρόθεση η ανάγκη για ενεργό συμμετοχή της τοπικής κοινωνίας και η ενίσχυση των ανθρώπινων δραστηριοτήτων που είχαν παρατηρηθεί κοντά στην κοίτη του ποταμού, καθώς επίσης και η δυνατότητα ελεύθερης ανάπτυξης του φυσικού οικοσυστήματος. Αυτές οι θεωρητικές προθέσεις συνέβαλαν σημαντικά ακόμα και στο πρακτικό πεδίο του σχεδιασμού και αποτέλεσαν τις βασικές συνθετικές αρχές αυτής της διπλωματικής.	el
heal.abstract	My final project’s topic is focused on Kifisos river and an effort of a more equitable exploitation and its integration in everyday life of the citizens of Athens. Kifisos is the largest river of Attica, a peninsula with a limited hydrographic network that has undergone intense urban pressures over the past decades at the expense of its natural environment. The main objective of the project is, thus, the transformation of Kifisos river into a more active part of the city, which will be able to drain the rainwater sufficiently and safely and will cover any needs of Attica, while (at the same time) will provide aesthetic quality to the city. Apart from its functional role as a linear water element that flows through the capital, it is of paramount importance to regain its own social and environmental character as a river, by constituting a field of social interaction and ecological awareness. However, after having studied the condition of the river today, I believe that a single or punctual design proposal of reformation of part of specific riparian areas could not have been sufficient in order to change the current degraded image of Kifisos. The absence of proper education and knowledge regarding the river’s value and its priceless natural ecosystem, as well as the weakness of managing the available water resources, constitute (among others) the main factors that lead to its current negative image. So, the final project focuses on the creation of a research centre which will study various methods of water recycling and possible ways of water resource management. At the same time it will raise public awareness of Kifisos and its valuable ecosystem and offer knowledge of environmental issues. In parallel with the research and educational centre, is proposed the design of an educational promenade along the bed of the river, a path of stimuli that will bring the residents in closer contact with the natural landscape. In other words, the overall proposal aims, not only at investigating and finding the most adequate way of river management, but mostly at increasing the knowledge of the citizens, who up until now, seem to be unaware of its environmental richness. By studying Kifisos in relation to Attica (its basin), as far as its position, its evolution through time, its connection with the urban and suburban tissue, and also the reversibility or not of its current situation are concerned, I chose to deal with the section of the river that passes through the municipalities of Acharnon, Kifisias and Metamorfosis. It is a region which includes the demarcated areas of Kifisos, while it belongs to the suburban part of Athens which has undergone severe mutations. At the same time, remains unknown to most of the citizens the fact that the natural river bed retains its biodiversity up to the point of its penetration into the dense urban fabric. Through the analysis of the area, in particular the municipality of Acharnes which is the direct spatial and social field of the proposal, a problem of twofold nature is apparent: on the one hand, the environmental degradation of the riparian zones is quite obvious, on the other hand, social inequality and devalorisation of the urban space constitute serious obstacles to each effort of enhancement of the quality of the zones close to the river. Thus, the proposed scenario is based on three axes: research, education-information, interaction. During the design process of the project, the fieldwork and the general analysis of the area played an important role. The topography and the relief of the watercourse, the existing planting, the morphology of the river bed, as well as the engraving of the river banks were the main tools used in the design phases of the project. Meanwhile, the improvised constructions of the Greek countryside and also structures of natural materials that step in the logic of such constructions worked as reference images and contributed to the design of the riparian area and the volume of the building. Lastly, I would like to put emphasis on the fact that the need for active participation of the local community and the development of the human activities that has been observed close to the river bed, as well as the free unfolding of the natural ecosystem were ideas of primordial importance throughout the overall project. These theoretical intentions have contributed significantly even to the design phases and have been the main principles of my project.	en
