heal.abstract	The goal of every organized society is achieving progress and prosperity for its whole. This is usually unilaterally attributed to biomechanical growth , in terms of stiff economic measures, without specific care about the impact of that growth on the natural environment as well as the human factor. Even when the case of environmental pollution is under the microscope, usually the part of noise pollution is neglected. Noise pollution has a significant impact both on the psychological and the physical health of those subjected to it. Especially in the case of someone working or living near a big port, where noise of high level is continuous. Right now in Greece the care, the rules and the existing legislation over noise pollution is at a primary level. At this particular thesis we chose study specific measurement positions on the commercial port of Perama, the passenger port of Pireaus and Demokratias avenue, which is the central avenue of Perama city, as well as some satellite positions around our three basic axes study. Simultaneous recordings with a level 1 sound meter and a laptop have taken place. The laptop recordings where later processed with Matlab. Next we isolated and processed specific noise events, in order to determine the level which those events affected the outcome of our total recordings. Via gathering, processing and analyzing those data we resulted to significant conclusions on the kind and the characteristics of noise sources in the broader area of Pireaus. In addition we examined in a theoretical way the noise and its impacts on humanhealth. Furthermore there has been a detailed reference of the legislator framework in Greece and Europe. Finally suggestions on noise management and noise reduction have been made.	en
