| el |
heal.abstract | Personalized and pervasive healthcare helps seamlessly the integration of healthcare and wellness into people’s daily life, independent of time and location. Nowadays, the advancements in biomedical sensing technologies have rapid growth. Silicon based integrated circuits have shown great advantages in terms of tiny physical size, and low power consumption. As a result, they have been found in many advanced medical applications. In the meanwhile, printed electronics is considered as a promising approach enabling cost-effective manufacturing of thin, flexible, and light- weight devices. A hybrid integration of integrated circuits and printed electronics provides a promising solution for the future wearable healthcare devices. Wireless sensor network (WSN) technologies are considered one of the key research areas in computer science and the healthcare application industries for improving the quality of life. T his thesis provides a snapshot of current developments and future direction of research on wearable and implantable body area network systems for continuous monitoring of patients. It explains the important role of body sensor networks in medicine in order to minimize the need for caregivers and help the chronically ill and elderly people to live an independent life, besides providing people with quality healthcare. The thesis provides several examples of technology together with design considerations like unobtrusiveness, scalability, energy efficiency, security. Also provides a comprehensive analysis of the various benefits and drawbacks of these systems. Although offering significant benefits, the field of wearable and implantable body sensor networks still faces major challenges and open research problems which are considered presenting some proposed solutions, in this paper. | en |
