heal.abstract | In the current diploma thesis, an algorithm of tracking and reflection of the direct solar beam is presented. The algorithm can be applied in the Solar-Thermal production of electricity and particularly in the Central Receiver Systems (Solar Tower). The Concetrated Solar Power Systems are developing very fast in the last few years and are growing into an important candidate for the future production of electricity. These systems have been tested mostly in Spain and U.S.A, but they have also great growth potential in the Mediterranean countries, because of the great sunshine. In this study it is given a general framework which is common to all types of concentrated solar systems stages. These stages are: the solar absorber of radiation, the conversion of solar energy to thermal and then into electricity. Special report is given for the Solar Towers, because the algorithm which is presented, can be applied in these systems. The description of these systems, its components and the commercial installations that have been used, are presented. Based on the sun’s position and its relative motion to the Earth, the solar coordinates can be calculated by using the solar equations (Solar azimuth and elevation of the Sun). This calculation is based on a specific theoretical model for the sun motion, which is presented. Based on the sun’s position as well as the target’s position, where the direct solar beam should be reflected, we can calculate the course that Solar Tracker should follow, so that the mirror (Heliostat) reflects properly the solar beam onto the Target. Solar coordinates are very important for the production of solar energy, because a Thermal-Solar system can increase or greatly decrease its efficiency, depending on the Sun motion and the geographic location of each region. 12 For the calculation of the Solar coordinates as well as the course the Tracker should follow, it was used the programming environment NI Labview, for reasons which are referred in the study. | en |
