This thesis was developed within the undergraduate faculty of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, National Technical University and is entitled: "Environmental Life Cycle Cost Analysis of vessel’s main engine." It carried out under the supervision of Assistant Professor N.Ventikos.
The aim of the hereby exposed thesis is to set the beginnings of the development of a tool, through which total costs of a vessel will be calculated, not only internal but external as well while there is not such existing tool. Given the complexity of a vessel, the excessive amount of the components that constitute and the unpredictable factors that play vital role in a vessel’s life, this effort was limited to an application on main engine.
The first part research is mainly of theoretical nature, as it is focused on basic definitions which are necessary for the deeper comprehension of essential issues related to life cycle cost. Afterwards, some regulations – already active or in the forthcoming years- are represented.
In the second part, all calculations are represented while operation of the main engine is examined in 3 different scenarios. In each of them, total fuel consumption is calculated and the corresponding emissions as well.
The main goal was the quantitative representation of the life cycle cost taking also into account cost due to the amount of air pollutants in order to provide a reliable calculation tool. |
