heal.abstract	Η παρούσα εργασία επιχειρεί να προσδιορίσει και ν’ αναλύσει τα αυτόνομα αγροτικά σύνολα των μετοχιών, όπως αναπτύχθηκαν και εξελίχθηκαν στον αγροτικό χώρο της Κρητικής υπαίθρου, με έμφαση στην περίοδο της τουρκοκρατίας και μέσα από παραδείγματα της δυτικής Κρήτης. Με αφετηρία την ανάγκη διαχείρισης και εκμετάλλευσης της εύφορης γης, δημιουργήθηκαν αυτόνομα αγροτικά σύνολα με πρωταρχικό σκοπό την εξυπηρέτηση και την οργάνωση της συστηματικής παραγωγικής διαδικασίας, συνδυάζοντάς την αρμονικά με την εποχιακή ή μόνιμη κατοικία του γαιοκτήμονα. Το ενδιαφέρον εστιάζεται τόσο στη δομή, τη λειτουργία και τη σύσταση των συνόλων αυτών όσο και στην ανάλυση των κατασκευαστικών λύσεων που τα χαρακτηρίζουν, με την παράλληλη αναζήτηση των παραγόντων που οδήγησαν σε αυτές. Ιδιαίτερη προσοχή δίνεται επίσης στο ρόλο που διαδραματίζει το υγρό στοιχείο στην συγκρότηση του μετοχιού και ο τρόπος διαχείρισης του. Μέσα από την ανάλυση αυτή διαπιστώνεται η δημιουργία μιας ιδιότυπης τοπικής αρχιτεκτονικής που αφομοιώνει δυτικές επιρροές από τον Ενετό προηγούμενο κατακτητή αλλά και στοιχεία της Ανατολής κατά την διάρκεια της Οθωμανικής κυριαρχίας, προσαρμοσμένα, όμως, στο περιβάλλον, τις δυνατότητες και τις απαιτήσεις της κρητικής υπαίθρου.	el
heal.abstract	This research attempts to define and analyze the independent rural complexes, called metochia, as they developed and evolved in the rural parts of the Cretan countryside, mainly in the ottoman period and with examples of western Crete. Starting with the need to manage and exploit the fertile land, the primary purpose of these complexes was to servicing and organizing the systematic production process, combining it harmoniously with the landowner's seasonal or permanent residence. The focus is as well on the structure, function and composition of these complexes as on the analysis of their construction solutions and search for the factors that led to them. Particular attention is also given to the role the water is playing in the composition of the metochi and to the way that it is managed. This analysis shows the creation of a particular local architecture, that assimilates not only western influences from the Venetian previous occupier but also elements of the East during the Ottoman domination, adjusted to the environment, the capabilities and the requirements of the Cretan countryside.	en
