heal.abstract	Στη συγκεκριμένη διπλωματική εργασία διερευνάται ο σχεδιασμός δημόσιου χώρου για το Εθνικό Μουσείο Σύγχρονης Τέχνης (πρώην εργοστάσιο ΦΙΞ). Το υπάρχον μουσείο, το οποίο βρίσκεται περικλεισμένο από δρόμους μεγάλης κυκλοφορίας και υψηλών ταχυτήτων, στερείται υπαίθριου δημόσιου χώρου. Παράλληλα, στο πεδίο παρέμβασης και στο ζωτικό του χώρο υπάρχουν χρήσεις μητροπολιτικής σημασίας ατάκτως χωροθετημένες και χωρίς σημαντική επικοινωνία μεταξύ τους. Ο συγκεκριμένος χωρικός χειρισμός φαίνεται να μην εκμεταλλεύεται τις δυνατότητες που προκύπτουν για την ανάπτυξη και τη διεθνή ακτινοβολία που θα μπορούσε να έχει το πεδίο μελέτης, λόγω της υπερσυνδεσιμότητάς του αλλά και της μεγάλης πολιτιστικής του αξίας. Επομένως, κατά το σχεδιασμό κληθήκαμε να αντιμετωπίσουμε τρεις βασικές προκλήσεις. Κατ’ αρχάς, τη δημιουργία δημόσιου χώρου για τη μοναδική κρατική πολιτιστική υποδομή με αναφορά στη σύγχρονη τέχνη. Κατά δεύτερον, την τακτοποίηση και τον επανασχεδιασμός των ‘δοχείων’ που στεγάζουν τις υπάρχουσες λειτουργίες ώστε να βελτιωθεί η αποδοτικότητά και η σύνδεσή τους με την πόλη και μεταξύ τους. Τρίτον, ο συμβιβασμός των αντικρουόμενων συμφερόντων, αλλά και διεκδικήσεων επί του χώρου που η κάθε λειτουργία απαιτεί, σε ένα οικόπεδο (μακρόστενο και) περικυκλωμένο από δρόμους υψηλών ταχυτήτων. Η μεθοδολογία που ακολουθήσαμε βασίστηκε στη μελέτη του μουσείου και της πόλης σαν ένα σύστημα μελέτης. Έτσι, οι διάφορες κλίμακες μελέτης εξετάζονταν παράλληλα, γεγονός που επέτρεψε την άμεση διερεύνηση των περιορισμών που μια ανάλυση αρχιτεκτονικής/οικοδομικής κλίμακας μπορεί να θέσει στην κλίμακα της πόλης και αντιστρόφως. Έτσι, η τελική πρόταση διαμορφώθηκε μέσα από την καταγραφή, την αξιολόγηση, και την ιεράρχηση των χωρικών περιορισμών (οικοδομικών, αρχιτεκτονικών, μηχανολογικών, αστικών), αλλά και των κοινωνικών δεδομένων και επιδιώξεων. Η διπλωματική μας εργασία τελικά προτείνει τη δημιουργία ενός πολυλειτουργικού δημόσιου χώρου. Διατηρώντας και αναπροσαρμόζοντας τις υπάρχουσες χρήσεις, προτείνουμε περαιτέρω πολιτιστικές / καλλιτεχνικές, «οικιστικές» και ψυχαγωγικές χρήσεις ώστε να πλαισιώσουμε και να ζωτικοποιήσουμε τον σχεδιασμένο δημόσιο χώρο.	el
heal.abstract	This diploma project investigates the design of a public space for the National Museum of Contemporary Art and its incorporation in the suffocating urban context of the site. The existent museum lacks a public space of equivalent importance to its size and significance. Further, on the site of intervention and its vital environment there are many irregularly placed metropolitan uses, while the access to the site is further incommoded by the traffic; i.e. the museum is enclosed by an important highway and routes of considerable traffic. This spatial arrangement doesn’t take advantage of the great potential of the site to become important for the city’s branding and development. Both its great interconnectedness, and its important cultural value (i.e. the building of the museum is a monument of modern architecture) remain unexploited, giving way to a spatial dissonance and ataxia. Thus, the design goal was a triple one. First, the design of a public space for the most prestigious national cultural infrastructure. Second, the rearrangement of existing uses, so as to improve their way of functioning and connecting to the urban fabric and to each other. Third, the compromise of the conflicting interests, in an ‘islandish’ and elongated urban plot, enclosed by routes of metropolitan importance. The methodology through which we approached this challenge was based on the analysis of the museum and its context (metro station, transit station, auto routes, etc.) as one system. Hence, the analysis of the site in an architectural scale was done in parallel with the urban analysis, examining how changes in one scale would affect the other. The final proposal was formed through the record, evaluation, and hierarchy of spatial (structural, mechanical, architectural, urban) and societal restrictions and pursuits. The project finally suggests the creation of a multifunctional public space. While retaining and rearranging the existing uses, we further suggest cultural/artistic, ‘residential’, and recreation uses in order to frame and vitalize the designed public space.	en
