heal.abstract	Η διπλωματική εργασία αφορά στην παρέμβαση σε αστικό κενό. Αυτό το κενό εντοπίζεται στο δυτικό άκρο του δήμου Πειραιά, δίπλα στο λιμάνι, και στο ανατολικό άκρο του δήμου Δραπετσώνας-Κερατσινίου, αποτελώντας μάλιστα και επίσημο όριο μεταξύ των δύο δήμων. Η εισροή των προσφύγων το 1922, η βιομηχανική ανάπτυξη και η έντονη παρουσία υποδομών μεταφοράς, διαμόρφωσαν τη σημερινή εικόνα της περιοχής και ευθύνονται για τη δημιουργία ορίου σε επίπεδο κοινωνικό, οικονομικό, πολιτικό και χωρικό. Ο διαχωρισμός αυτός εντείνεται στο σημείο όπου ο αστικός ιστός διακόπτεται από σιδηροδρομικές γραμμές, οι οποίες είναι τοποθετημένες σε επίπεδο πλέον ενός ορόφου κάτω από αυτόν. Στο επίπεδο της πόλης, οι προσφυγικές κατοικίες και τα καταστήματα εκατέρωθεν των γραμμών, δημιουργούν δύο κτιριακούς όγκους. Αυτά τα κτίρια, τα οποία μετρούν έναν αιώνα ζωής, αφηγούνται ένα μεγάλο κομμάτι της ιστορίας αυτού του τόπου, αποτελώντας τεκμήρια λαϊκού πολιτισμού. Ενώ η λειτουργία των δύο κτιριακών όγκων, τούς συσχετίζει, το κενό τούς διαχωρίζει ακαριαία, έτσι ώστε τα κτίρια να μοιάζουν μετέωρα. Σκοπός της πρότασης είναι να εξομαλυνθούν τα όρια αυτού του κενού. Το αστικό αυτό ρήγμα, το οποίο διαχωρίζει τις δύο περιοχές, είναι και το μόνο που μπορεί και να τις «συρράψει». Επομένως η παρέμβαση πραγματοποιείται στο επίπεδο των γραμμών και των υπογείων των κτιρίων, «εμβολιάζοντας» την υπάρχουσα συνθήκη, με στόχο την αναζωογόνησή της. Το εμπόριο και η εστίαση αποτελούν κύριους λόγους κατασκευής και λειτουργίας των κτιρίων μέχρι και σήμερα, επομένως εξελικτικά, η τόνωσή τους είναι ζωτικής σημασίας. Παραγωγικές διαδικασίες συμπληρώνουν λειτουργικά την παρέμβαση και εξυπηρετούνται από τις γραμμές του τρένου. Κατά αυτόν τον τρόπο, το αστικό ρήγμα αποκτά ζωή και κίνηση. Ο νέος, εμφυτευμένος, μεταλλικός οργανισμός καθορίζει οριζόντιες και κατακόρυφες κινήσεις (γέφυρες και κλιμακοστάσια), διαμορφώνει νέους χώρους, εισχωρεί στους ήδη υφιστάμενους, αφήνοντας ένα κομμάτι του να ξεπροβάλλει στο επίπεδο της πόλης και προετοιμάζοντας τον περαστικό για την «έκπληξη» που βρίσκεται κάτω από αυτή, μέσα στο αστικό ρήγμα.	el
heal.abstract	The subject of this diploma project lies in the intervention in an urban void situated between the west side of the city of Piraeus, next to the port, and the east side of Drapetsona-Keratsini municipality, constituting the official border between these two municipalities, as well. The refugees flow in 1922, the correlated to it industrial growth of the city and the strong presence of the transport infrastructure shaped the current image of the territory. They are also associated to the formation of social, economic, political and spatial boundaries. These boundaries are intensified at the very point where the urban fabric is interrupted by a railway that lies underneath. On the city level, refugee housing and stores alongside the railroad tracks, form two blocks. These buildings are lying there for almost a century, being a part of the city’s history and folk culture. While these two blocks are related to each other through their function, the urban void separates them instantaneously, making them look as if they are suspended. This project’s objective lies in smoothing the boundaries produced by the urban void. This urban rift appears to be the most appropriate space for merging the two building blocks. Therefore the intervention area is located at the railway level and the basements alongside. A regenerated functional program is “injected” inside this site, expecting it to lead to the revitalization of the region in the long run. These buildings were created for commercial as well as for recreational services in the past and these uses are still evident today. Therefore, their stimulation must be correlated to the essence of this project. In addition to commerce, production processes appear to the very heart of the site, being served by the railroad tracks. This results in the urban rift enlivenment. A new, implanted, metal structure determines the movement flows both horizontally and vertically (bridges and staircases), creates new spaces, and penetrates into the existing ones. At the same time, it reveals a part of itself at the city level, implying the “surprise” that lies underneath, inside the urban rift.	en
