heal.abstract	Η εν λόγω εργασία πραγματεύεται τις σύγχρονες πολιτικές για τον πολεοδομικό και αστικό σχεδιασμό στην Ευρώπη. Μέσα από μία σύντομη διαδρομή στην ιστορική εξέλιξη των πολεοδομικών πρακτικών, φτάνουμε από τα τέλη του 19ου αι. στα σύγχρονα αστικά τοπία, εξετάζοντας τις συνθήκες που οδήγησαν στην ανάδυσή τους. Μέσα σε αυτό το θεωρητικό πλαίσιο, αναλύονται οι έννοιες της αστικής ανταγωνιστικότητας, ως παγκόσμιας οικονομικής επιταγής, και της βιωσιμότητας των πόλεων, ως αρχής επαναπροσδιορισμού για τις πολιτικές διακυβέρνησης. Με σκοπό μια μελέτη εφαρμογής των παραπάνω παραγόντων στον αστικό χώρο, αλλά και τη διάγνωση περαιτέρω στοιχείων οργάνωσης της οικιστικής ανάπτυξης στις δυτικοευρωπαϊκές πόλεις, αναλύουμε, εν τάχη, τρέχοντα προγράμματα σχεδιασμού μεγάλων ευρωπαϊκών κέντρων, όπως της Βαρκελώνης και της Κοπεγχάγης. Η εργασία καταλήγει στην ενδελεχή μελέτη του μεγαλύτερου έργου αστικής ανάπλασης αυτή τη στιγμή στον Ευρωπαϊκό χώρο: του προγράμματος HafenCity στο Αμβούργο. Με αφορμή τον πειραματικό χαρακτήρα του εγχειρήματος, επιχειρούμε να εντοπίσουμε τις στρατηγικές και τα εργαλεία που χρησιμοποιούνται για τη σύνθεση ενός καινοτόμου αστικού τοπίου, που εξυπηρετεί τις ανάγκες της πόλης σε τοπικό και διεθνές επίπεδο. heal.abstract	The specific dissertation deals with the current policies concerning the urban design and planning in Europe. Throughout a brief course in the historical evolution of the urban policies which begins in the late 19th century, we end up to the contemporary urban landscapes, examining the circumstances that led on their immersion. Inside this theoretical framework, we analyse the concepts of urban competitiveness, as a global economic precept, and sustainability, as a principal that redefines the policies of urban governance. Aiming on the study of those factors applied on the urban space, as well as the detection of further elements in the organisation of urban development in the west-european cities, we briefly focus on current programs of urban design in big european centers, such as Barcelona or Copenhagen. The dissertation ends up to the thorough analysis of the biggest project of urban regeneration at this moment in the european landscape: the Hafencity program, in Hamburg. Prompted by the experimental nature of the undertaking, we attempt to pinpoint both the strategies and the tools to be used for the synthesis of an innovative urban landscape, which serves the local and global needs of the city. Strategies that may establish the foundation of the city of tomorrow.	en
