heal.abstract	Σκοπός της εργασίας αυτής είναι να διερευνήσει τις σύγχρονες πρακτικές πάνω στην προστασία και στην επανάχρηση των διατηρητέων κτηρίων της Αθήνας και να εξετάσει κάτω από ποιες συνθήκες (κοινωνικές, πολιτικές, οικονομικές) οι πρακτικές αυτές μορφοποιήθηκαν. Αρχικά, γίνεται μία σύντομη αναδρομή στις τάσεις ανοικοδόμησης και στις διαδικασίες εκμετάλλευσης του αστικού χώρου που επικράτησαν στον πολεοδομικό ιστό της πρωτεύουσας στα χρόνια του νεότερου ελληνικού κράτους, οι οποίες επηρέασαν καθοριστικά και τον τρόπο διαχείρισης των νεότερων ιστορικών κτηρίων. Στη συνέχεια, αφού γίνει μία εκτενής αναφορά στο θεσμικό πλαίσιο προστασίας των προστατευόμενων κτηρίων, όπως αυτό διαμορφώθηκε έως σήμερα και επισημανθούν οι άξονες που οφείλει να ακολουθεί μία μελέτη αποκατάστασης, γίνεται μία κριτική στις προβληματικές που εμφανίζονται σήμερα σε προστατευόμενα σύνολα. Στο δεύτερο μέρος της εργασίας, παρουσιάζονται οι κρίσιμες περίοδοι καταστροφής αλλά και προστασίας των διατηρητέων κτηρίων της πρωτεύουσας. Από τη μία, οι περίοδοι καταστροφής καθορίστηκαν από τις εντατικές πιέσεις του κατασκευαστικού τομέα για υπερεκμετάλλευση της αστικής γης ακόμα και σε προστατευόμενα περιβάλλοντα, οι οποίες υλοποιούνταν με την αρωγή της κεντρικής εξουσίας και από την άλλη, οι περίοδοι σωτηρίας αναφέρονται σε δομές του κρατικού μηχανισμού που με τις καθοριστικές αποφάσεις τους αντιστέκονταν στην άμετρη ανοικοδόμηση θέτοντας ως προτεραιότητα την προστασία του φυσικού και πολιτιστικού περιβάλλοντος.	el
heal.abstract	The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the contemporary practices on the protection and restoration of historic buildings in Athens and also to review/examine under which circumstances (social, political, financial) these practices have evolved during the recent years. At the beginning, there is a brief overview of the most common rebuilding/restoration techniques as well as the main usages of urban space which determined the facilities management of the historic buildings in the city of Athens during the recent years. Additionally, there is an extensive review on the institutional framework for the protection of listed buildings, as this has evolved until nowadays. The review identifies and comments on the defaults and weaknesses of the existing principals/guidelines according to which a restoration process is currently conducted. The second part of the thesis outlines the key periods/milestones of the damage and protection/restoration of the preservable buildings of Athens. From one perspective, the main damage periods have been determined by the overexploitation of urban land even in protected environments, as a result of the growing construction industry with the support of the central administration of the Greek state. From another perspective, the periods of restoration have been facilitated as a result of decisive measures of the local authorities to protect the natural and cultural environment opposing the unconstrained construction.	en
