heal.abstract	City’’ . Different types of applications developed for serving distinct sect or al interests have led to the emergence of relative sector - specific terms , such as ‘’smart mobility’’, ‘’smart people’’, ‘’smart tourism’’ etc. Of importance in this respect, although not yet fully attracting the interest of the scientific community, are ap plications addressing specific needs of suburban, rural and insular areas. M ajor field s of application of ICT and their innovati ve applications are those of tourism and culture. Currenty existing capabilities contribute to content creation and its promotion to an innumerable number of recipients, spreading thus information before, during and after the visit to a potential (cultural) tourism destination. In th e present thesis, the focus is on the field of Smart Tourism. The scope is to develo p an application in support of cultural tourist product creation that is based on an ancient site , located in the island of Rhodes. Th is application takes advantage of the modern technology of Virtual 3D Modelling in order an Interactive Virtual 3D Map to be creat ed , as a mean for promoting th is cultural resource and surrounding area as a cultural tourism destination.	en
