heal.abstract	Η παρούσα διπλωματική εργασία καλείται να αντιμετωπίσει δύο ευρέως διαδεδομένα προβλήματα. Το πρώτο αφορά στην σταδιακή φθορά των μνημείων, που οφείλεται στη μερική εγκατάλειψή τους από τους αντίστοιχους φορείς και στην ελεύθερη διάθεση τους στο κοινό. Το δεύτερο πρόβλημα εστιάζει στην σταδιακή ισοπέδωση των λόφων, λόγω διάβρωσης. Ο ασβεστόλιθος διαρκώς κατακερματίζεται, ο όγκος του περιορίζεται και σε βάθος χρόνου οι λόφοι μετατρέπονται σε λιθοσωρούς. Το φαινόμενο αυτό, αν και δεν μπορεί να γίνει εύκολα αντιληπτό, βρίσκεται υπό συνεχή εξέλιξη και οδηγεί στην ριζική μεταβολή του τοπίου και στην εξαφάνιση των λόφων, αφήνοντάς τους ανάμνηση στις γραπτές μαρτυρίες και στους χάρτες. Ο Άρειος Πάγος συνδυάζει τα δύο παραπάνω ζητήματα. Ο λόφος αποτελεί τεκμήριο της εξελικτικής πορείας του τόπου, καθώς είναι άρρηκτα συνδεδεμένος με την πόλη των Αθηνών για περισσότερα από 5000 χρόνια. Ωστόσο ο ρόλος του στο δίκτυο των κύριων αρχαιολογικών χώρων της πρωτεύουσας είναι υποβαθμισμένος. Επιπλέον, πρόκειται για ένα λόφο στον οποίο τα φαινόμενα διάβρωσης είναι έντονα, ενώ η μορφή του άλλαξε δραστικά εξαιτίας της έντονης σεισμικής δραστηριότητας, που προκάλεσε την πτώση μεγάλων ογκοτεμαχίων. Τα κομμάτια ασβεστόλιθου που αποκολλήθηκαν περιλάμβαναν ίχνη αρχαίων κατασκευών, σημαντικών στοιχείων της αρχαίας τοπογραφίας των Αθηνών. Για αυτούς τους λόγους κρίνεται αναγκαία η επέμβαση στο λόφο του Αρείου Πάγου με απόλυτο σεβασμό προς το μνημείο και το περιβάλλον του, ώστε να διαφυλαχτεί η διαχρονική σχέση του με την πόλη. Κύριο στόχο της εργασίας αποτελεί η ανάπτυξη μίας ολοκληρωμένης μεθοδολογίας ανάταξης των αποκολλημένων βραχοτεμαχίων. Στα πρώτα κεφάλαια της εργασίας πραγματοποιείται η καταγραφή των κυριότερων χαρακτηριστικών του μνημείου, που σε συνδυασμό με τα αρχαιολογικά και ιστορικά κατάλοιπα που βρίσκονται πάνω και πέριξ του λόφου συνθέτουν τον πολύπλευρο χαρακτήρα του. Στη συνέχεια περιγράφεται, αξιολογείται και αποτυπώνεται η περιοχή μελέτης. Ταυτόχρονα αναλύονται οι μηχανισμοί που προκάλεσαν την απόσχιση μεγάλου τμήματος της κορυφής του λόφου και που συνεχίζουν να δρουν διαβρώνοντας και να κατακερματίζοντας τον λόφο. Ακολουθεί η διατύπωση προτάσεων για την προστασία και ανάδειξη της κορυφής του λόφου. Τέλος, λαμβάνει χώρα η διερεύνηση των σημερινών μέσων και δυνατοτήτων που θα μπορούσαν να αξιοποιηθούν και προτείνεται μια ολοκληρωμένη μεθοδολογία ανάταξης των αποκολλημένων βραχοτεμαχίων.	el
heal.abstract	The present diploma thesis deals with two widespread issues. The first one would be the corrosion of monuments caused by their free access to the public. The second issue focuses on the erosion of the limestone that lead to its constant fragmentation. This phenomenon, although it is evolving at a very slow pace, can lead to disappearance of hills, thus causing radical change of the landscape. These two issues are combined at Areopagus. The city of Athens is associated with this hill for more than 5000 years. The monumental ruins located on its surface and near the hill provide important knowledge about the evolution of the city throughout the centuries. However, the hill is degraded and disconnected from the archeological sites of Ancient Agora and Acropolis. In addition, its form changed drastically due to the intense seismic activity of the area that led to the collapse of large segments of rock. On the surface of the limestone pieces that collapsed were traces of ancient structures, important elements of ancient topography of Athens. The most important among the ancient structures were the foundation traces of an Ionic temple. For those reasons it is necessary to restore the Areopagus with respect for the monument and the nearby archeological sites, in order to preserve its timeless connection with Athens. The main objective of the diploma thesis is the development of an integrated methodology for the relocation of the collapsed rock segments to their original positions. In the first chapters of the thesis are analyzed the archeological and historical remains located on the surface and around the hill. Then, the collapsed limestone pieces were investigated in order to find connections among the fragments and their original position on the hill, and to determine the earlier form of the Areopagus. The results of the research were used for the 3d reconstruction of the monument that was achieved via 3d models created by image based methods. Finally, a general management plan is proposed for the Areopagus, along with several alternative restoration scenarios, concerning the plan of the archaeological site and the different technical approaches on the relocation of the fallen rock segments.	en
