Cold Ironing is a relatively recent technique which is receiving great amounts of attention lately and it’s being promoted as a prime strategy for reducing air pollutants generated from global maritime industry.
This diploma thesis discusses the possibility of a Cold Ironing installation in the port of Heraklion, Crete. At first a feasibility study was conducted in order to determine the cost of applying on-shore power supply to the port.
Moreover, a study was carried out for the creation of a photovoltaic park within the port of Heraklion, with the purpose to produce an amount of electrical power to meet the energy needs of the ships docked at the port.
Finally, the overall project was examined from a cost-benefit perspective using the investment rating criterion NPV (Net Present Value) |
