Nowadays, one of the fastest-growing sectors of the world economy is the aviation industry. With a life span of just over a century, the airplane has managed to attract many industries around the globe, both in the primary and secondary and tertiary sectors of production where with the creation and development of many airlines, aviation to the global passenger community. One of these airlines is Aegean Airlines, which is the largest Greek airline.
The purpose of this work is to study and evaluate the strategy of Aegean Airlines. With the analysis and assessment of the company's strategy, it is fully justified why Aegean is now the largest Greek airline, one of the largest and fastest growing airlines in Europe, and why it gathers many prospects for its further development and emergence its global aviation force.
In order to analyze the company's context, the company's external environment was initially studied using methods such as PEST analysis, Porter’s five forces analysis and Critical Success Factors (CSF) analysis, and by examining the industry and competitors, and then the internal environment SWOT analysis, use of Kay's theory and review of material and intangible resources, financial data, unique attributes of the company's assets and capabilities, and identification of the competitive of the advantage over its competitors. The company's strategy was also studied by examining the organizational structure, stakeholder requirements and MOST analysis, and its alternative strategic options in each scenario of evolutions for the company were analyzed and evaluated through an economic examination and the use of the Suitability, Feasibility and Acceptability fit Assessment Method (SFA). Furthermore, the implementation of the proposed strategic options through the changes to be made in various sectors of the company (7S method), the identification of actions, priorities, stakeholders and the timeframe for their realization were examined.
So, through the conclusions drawn, the strategic choices, objectives and tactics of the company were understood, the reasons why Aegean made a large and steadily growing airline and the ways in which the company will succeed better results were analyzed.
The results of this work are judged to be important because they are a very useful tool in the hands of any reader or scholar and anyone involved in the aviation industry to understand the parties that can synthesize a mix of successful strategy for the companies in the industry, how to manage their resources and capabilities and how to design and select their appropriate future strategy. |
