heal.abstract | In motorsports, developing well engineered solutions is essential for designing a competitive race car. The need for reaching the limits of engineering is even more intense in Formula Student applications. This work deals with the complete development of a gearbox for a single-cylinder powered Formula Student vehicle. The optimal solution for a set of gear ratios is examined using both an analytical and a simulation-based approach. A stochastic optimization method is employed for the latter. The contribution of gear upshift and downshift engine speeds is also taken under consideration. Results are being extracted and combined from different Formula Student tracks and generalized conclusions are made for selecting appropriate gear ratios. The gearbox mechanical design is also being analyzed. Finally, choosing a non-conventional manufacturing method enabled designing beyond the existing gear module standards. | en |
