heal.abstract	Η παρούσα διπλωματική εργασία διερευνά την κατασκευή του κοινωνικού και εδαφικού στιγματισμού που ανακύπτει από το δημόσιο λόγο των ΜΜΕ. Αναζητά τα στοιχεία του τόπου και των κοινωνικών υποκειμένων που καπηλεύεται ο δημόσιος λόγος για να αναπτύξει και να (ανα)παράγει το φαινόμενο του στιγματισμού. Παράλληλα, εστιάζει και αναλύει τη χρήση της γλώσσας που επιτελείται μέσω της οποία δύναται να νομιμοποιούνται συγκεκριμένες αντιλήψεις και να εγκαθιδρύονται στιγματισμοί. Ιδιαίτερη σημασία δίνεται στην εξουσία που κατέχει ο δημόσιος λόγος, να μεταφέρει στο κοινό εικόνες και ιδέες ως δεδομένες στο πλαίσιο της ‘κοινής λογικής των πραγμάτων’. Επιπλέον, σχετίζεται και αντιπροσωπεύει άλλες μορφές εξουσίας και αναπαράγει αφηγήσεις καθοδηγούμενες από τα συμφέροντά τους. Σε αυτά τα πλαίσια, πραγματοποιήθηκε έρευνα και κριτική ανάλυση του λόγου που εκφράστηκε στην αρθρογραφία τριών εφημερίδων ευρείας κυκλοφορίας για τον εντοπισμό της ανάπτυξης του κοινωνικού και χωρικού στίγματος.	el
heal.abstract	This thesis examines the construction of social and territorial stigmatization arising from the public discourse of media. It seeks out the elements of place and social subjects that public discourse is invoked to develop and (re)produce the phenomenon of stigmatization. Furthermore, it focuses on and analyzes the techniques of the language used, by which specific perceptions and stigmas can be legitimized. Particular importance is given to the power held by public discourse to convey images and ideas which taken for granted to the public. In addition, it relates to and represents other forms of power, so reproduces discourses driven by their interests. In this context, a research and critical discourse analysis was conducted so as to investigate the development of social and spatial stigma was carried out by three major mainstream newspapers.The process of stigmatization relates to systems and structures of power and bears social inequalities. It is implemented in the spectrum of otherness and differs in every social, economic, political and spatial context. It is ingrained into stereotypical beliefs, prejudices and social categorizations. Stigma is diffused and reinforced through discourses, which usually focus on the concept of 'other'. ‘Other’ is defined as the person who deviates from the norms and rules of society and is used as a ‘tool’, whether targeted or not, to stigmatize places and neighborhoods. The concept of 'other' can be differentiated and take on many different identities, depending on the interests of the dominant group that defines it. If the 'other' is associated with the concept of criminality, it can be transformed into a 'criminal' other, causes multiple moral panics and stimulate punitive practices that will eliminate it. My research focuses on, and analyzes, how territorial and social stigma is deployed by public discourse in the region of Menidi, from 2001 until today. Through the critical analysis of the narratives of public discourse focusing on Menidi, it investigates how stigmatization was articulated, shaped, reinforced, promoted and legitimized based on several perceptions and beliefs focusing on the separation of 'us' and 'others', of the ‘deserving us’ and 'deviants and criminal others', the sense of fear and insecurity and the production of potential threat.	en
