heal.abstract | The selection of the excavation method to be used is a challenging task as there are a lot of different parameters to be considered, while on the same time there are unique characteristics is each project. In this thesis, a methodology for the selection of the most suitable method between drill and blast and mechanical excavation is presented, based on the cost and the timing of the excavating operations. In order to further analyse the influence of rock mass characteristics, the cost variation with respect to the rock mass quality has been analysed, allowing the selection of the most suitable method. Finally, in order to address uncertainty issues, a probabilistic analysis using the Monte Carlo simulation has been also incorporated. | en |
