heal.abstract This paper deals with the numerical calculations of resistance and self-propulsion parameters for a 75,000 DWT tanker through CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) tools developed by the naval and marine hydrodynamics sector of the National Technical University of Athens for the real scale problem. The study includes two different numerical approaches to the flow of water around the hull. In the first case, the free surface is calculated by the theory of potential flow and then the RANS equations are resolved under the determined free surface by the potential theory. In the second approach, the RANS equations are solved under the actual free surface of water in conjunction with a k-w model of turbulence. Finally, the results of the numerical solutions are being compared with real data from ship's Sea Trials. el
