heal.abstract	The main objective of this thesis is the historical documentation of the Catholic of the Holy Monastery of Panagia Varnakova, as well as the collection and classification of data in relation to the architectural construction phases of the monastery, the interventions, extensions, the vandalism, and the donations of believers and monks that took place in the social-political and historical context of different eras of examination. Also, due to the significant historical value of the wood-carved iconostasis of the monastery; it has been analyzed through the "non-destructive control method" with the techniques of Digital Microscopy and Infrared Thermography for the review of its conservation status. This postgraduate thesis resulted from bibliographic research of the historical archive of the Church of Greece, as well as the General Archives of the Greek State, while at the same time, the studies of A. Orlando, as well as Andreas Gasparis have been extensively used. The Monastery has suffered destruction of the Catholic and it has been periodically abandoned due to war events. Also, the Monastery had important benefactors in its long history, such as Komninοi, St. David, St. Arsenios, Ioannis Kapodistrias and generally the monastic community. Finally, the results of the application of the digital microscopy and the infrared thermography illustrate that the iconostasis has suffered biological infestations (canker, termites), as secondary pigments are observed in local abrasions. Also, the application of the infrared thermography methods manifests the coating of a foreign metal that in visual imaging appears to emit at a different wavelength than the main vector. At the same time, the rear view has been converted into carbon to a point in its cross-section. However, it has been concluded that the iconostasis is, generally, in a good conservation state.	en
