heal.abstract Nowadays, increasing air pollution rates in port areas have contributed to the search for alternatives to the electrification of ships while in port. A shore-to-ship power supply perspective is being examined by more and more port authorities, shipowners and stakeholders through Cold Ironing process studies following the toughening of rules and regulations on ship pollution. Another environmental friendly solution for the shipping sector is the concept of the all-electric-ship. Electric ships can provide significant reduction in fuel cost, maintenance and emissions as well as improved responsiveness, regularity and safety. STCW/ETO Model Courses provide technical and electrical knowledge to the seafarers in order to comply with IMO conventions. In the first Chapter, the contents of STCW/ETO Model Courses are referred as well as the different topics of knowledge they cover. In the second Chapter, the Standardization of Cold Ironing based on the regulation of IEC/ISO/IEE-80005-1/2 and its configuration, equipment and connection such as generators, cables, transformers, frequency converters and PMS are analyzed. In the third Chapter, Battery Ships are concerned. Different types of batteries, battery system arrangements are analyzed. Finally, electronic power devices are referred. The aim of this thesis is to provide all the essential knowledge a seafarer should have, for the requirements of Cold Ironing and Battery Ships, that is included in the STCW/ETO Courses by being a manual. en
